That other stupid site....

Check out this little diddy I wrote for that OTHER site...

Back in the Sack
Official logo of Sack Assassins
I am back on task! There are signs of progress in some areas, brand new drawing boards in other areas but the game is back!

Not only is it back but it brought a new name with it too. Sack Assassins. See... It used to be called "Surrogate Assassins" but long story short, the game does not rely on being inside a surrogate.  So without the surrogate, the word has no business being in the title.  So I kept the concept and managed to weave a co-op experience into it as well.  You can play with or even against your friends.
The plot is still being developed but it will be steeped in Jaded Gamer humor ... E rated Jaded Gamer humor. The player will be a new initiate into an Assassin's guild that has a rough first day in training.

The Fallout of the aftermath of the Fallout of Rogue Justice / Under Construction

It's dark
*BOOM* Fireworks...
                                Confetti...
                 Strobes...
                              Techno...
A ninja jumps though the window and starts doing parkour around the environment.

www.YourMommasBasement.com ( .info too but focus on the .com)

I thought it would be lame to kick off this "Under Construction" post with "Don't mind the mess..."so I decided to metaphorically create some. Anyways.  BAM.   ".com"

YourMommasBasement.com.  With an "O" I know it's confusing for like two seconds before you realize I went with Momma over Mamma.  I went with Momma for a lot of reasons.  Momma just seemed like the right fit.

I didn't want to get a domain with anything close to Jaded Gamer because I was late to that party which I feel like I should have been a part of back in 2008 when I took the moniker to Prime Time. Even though games and gaming will probably factor in heavily to this whole .com venture, I didn't want to pin myself down to specifically video games in general. There's a lot of crap in your momma's basement.

The idea of Your Momma's Basement is the idea of chilling down at somebody's parent's basement for whatever reason tend to bring good memories for most gamers and people in general. But for gamers it seems to be a den of memories. So I'm starting there. I'm back at your momma's basement with the chips and soda.

Keeping in mind that at least for now this is still a blog, I will utilize the powers of the internet and be more proactive in updating these pages... with something... anything as often as I can.  Then as the site expands, this blog will be a subsection of it.

Shout outs to Ballsrog, Commander Shepard, Wesker J, Da lysh and Rev Strack ... The Podcast crew over at GWA for making enough room for me.

This is going to be fun!

DANGER: MY BRAIN AT WORK

DISCLAIMER: This is what I do at work.

Ugh. I'm pretty exhausted you guys. Real life is fun and all but it has been time consuming.

Even though it don't look like it, I do have a plan for this Jaded Gamer stuff. The problem has largely been timing.  Either I didn't have the time to create or the window of opportunity closed.

Also... There is a surprise brewing and I can't comment on it... Yet.

Anyways... Because of my Rogue-like status as a gaming mercenary (of justice), it lead to a few complications. The water is always the most rocky when *you* gotta steer the ship. Also I was going to get a domain name to tie it all together but let's see how word of mouth works for another month. If traffic increases enough, then I'll figure something out.

So... I'd say that this weekend stands a pretty good chance of being a release window for me to put out some content. I should tweet a picture of my projects board so you can see my brain at work.

The only numbered episode I can vouch for is the first which is nothing more than a  reintroduction to The Jaded Gamer for those who don't know me and an update for those who do.  Every other episode is either still in my brain or barely into the filming stage. I'm focused on finishing up Max Payne 3 to put my impressions of it on the back of the first episode.

Other episode ideas which are currently in effect consist of things like "the best horror games." or my spin on console loyalty which everyone thinks is a lame topic until you bring it up.  Also too I am going to bring a few more ideas and people into the mix around episode 2 or 3 hopefully.

Between the episodes, I want to get into the habit of doing a small weekly vid segment as well as creating game content for the public. For instance Surrogate Assassins is my big idea for LittleBigPlanet. It is basically just a big side scrolling playground that lets the player hunt their marks with the hidden blade a la Assassin's Creed. It is influenced by open world games and has an interesting concept. I'd like to continue with the developer blogs until it's complete then move on to new levels or a new concept like building a 16 bit RPG.

Mo ideas mo problems. I'm just going to focus on one thing at a time.

Define DLC

Disclaimer: It's Dee-El-See... Not Dilc.. If you call it Dilc.. You are an asshole.

I don't like on-disc DLC. I don't even like it being referred to as on-disc DLC. Calling it DLC seems like a lie. I'm downloading nothing. I'm unlocking content to a game I thought I already purchased the license to play.

Now I'm not starting a petition or storming the steps of congress because honestly I'm not freaking out. I simply think the idea of selling me a disc with additional content locked away is shady.

Most people tend to argue that if what you play is worth the money then no harm no foul.

My argument is this... I don't care if I get 60 dollars of enjoyment out of pressing start or getting all of the achievements... Why does my money not purchase the license for everything on the disc? As a consumer I just find that to being an unsettling president. I mean you could apply the same idea to other industries and it wouldnt make sense. A car with the CD player installed but behind a paygate or paying for utensils at a diner seem stupid comparisons to make but I don't see the difference.  CD players and/or utensils at a restaurant seem like an accepted standard of sorts but really they were just DLC nobody charged us for until production costs got too high and they needed to squeeze some extra dough out the hardcore.

Why the disc as the delivery system? I'm at the game store already and now when I go home I have to deal with unlocking additional content on a disc I just bought.

Not to contradict myself but if the additional content is something like a bonus multiplayer map... Whatever... But should this "on disc-dlc" morph my $60 purchase in any way or become a part of the core game beyond an elected mission, I think I have a point.

Besides, if the idea of there being day one DLC on the disc don't bother you now. I bet it will the day it gets pushed too far. What if a game shipped without two levels like in Assassin's Creed 2?... But they were on the disc. What if your favorite RPG had two morality endings but the on disc DLC opens up the infinite shades of gray.

I get it. If I don't want it then I don't have to buy it. I know. But nobody bothered to tell me I didn't buy it until after I bought the disc it lives on.

Halo overload!

Alright you Halo fans of mine... For years you've put up with my jaded comments about your favourite franchise. And yes some of my comments were only said to troll you because honestly... A lot of you take Halo WAY too seriously. Silent Hill is by far and away my favourite franchise but when people start knocking on it... I don't flip my shit. I like Brink. The rest of the world doesn't. You like Halo and that's all that should matter.

Before I give you my impressions on the series you should know I played up to "The Library" in Halo CE and completed Halo 2 in it's entirety before I ever got cynical about the series. So here we go.

Halo Anniversary: The graphics bump was all this game needed for me to appreciate it. At the time the original came out my complaint was how ugly it looked. Then I played it and got frustrated at the lack of dual wield, Master Chief's floaty jumping, the waiting between key plot triggers and the general moving from point A to B only to wash rinse and repeat the same process. However now that my eyes dont have to look at 64 bit looking puke upscaled to 128.. And get to see the subtlety of the sky, the clarity of the Covenant and the look of anger on the faces of a charging enemy... I can appreciate what it did at the time even if I still don't think it lives up to the hype.

Halo 2: ok Now we're talking. This should have been the graphical fidelity of the first game. Matter of fact if they decide to give Halo 2 the HD treatment, I'd buy that. I wasn't angry about playing as the Arbiter. I prefer him actually. Master Chief just reminds me too often of DOOM and it makes me wish I was killing demons in Hell rather than aliens on a planet I just don't care about. Halo 2 is a large improvement but it's still just the epitome of generic shooter to me. I do however greatly approve of the vehicles. This is the area where Halo shines the brightest. Co-op with vehicles adds another dimension to it and kicks it up a notch.

Halo 3: Maybe I was going through fatigue of the franchise by this point but all I cared about was Cortana who was in the game less than Harley Quinn was in Arkham City. So needless to say this game, though slight improvements were made, disappointed me. I liked some of the environments but when that flippen orb turned on me it took me another day to muster up the energy to play the rest of the game after a shitty plot twist. The ending however was perfect. "Wake me up when I'm needed." Or whatever Master Chief says is the best way to close out the trilogy.

Halo 3 ODST: I cared so little for the plot in Halo 3 that I barely see how they relate other than how the ending explains it. Other than that this game is actually not bad. The lone rookie wandering the streets trying to piece everything together as he finds his squad. The story held it together fine. My only beef is the ODSTs can do what Master Chief does but without the suit, and a weaker shield. Plus they can't even hold two pistols but can wield a gravity hammer. But ODST is better than I thought.

And thats where I stopped. I started playing Halo Reach but I'm taking a break so I can appreciate it. I'm a little burned out on the series.  But I look forward to seeing what Reach has to offer.

My final thought is that Halo is better than I thought but not as good as you'd lead me to believe.

Kudos.  Tell your friends about me.
